"A guitar odyssey" (Ulf Johansson - Gothenburg Post, Swedish daily newspaper)

"Gui Mallon works in the tradition of the national Brazilian classical composer Villa-Lobos, and where that tradition meets the jazz of Egberto Gismonti".
(Ingrid Strömdahl -
Svenska Dagbladet, Swedish daily newspaper)

The guitarist Gui Mallon was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He studied at the CBM-Brazilian Conservatory of Music and later Composition and Conducting with Guerra Peixe and Alceu Bocchino at School Villa-Lobos.

As a self taught musician and polymathic artist, Gui Mallon deepened his studies in jazz and electronic music in New York (at The Center for the Media Arts) and wrote music for advertising and theatre. From 1990 he has worked mostly in Europe, first in Madrid where he studied flamenco guitar, moving later to Sweden, Stockholm and Gothenburg (since 1993), where he studied at the School of Arts Valand, University of Gothenburg. He developed his musical career internationally  by forming three different musical groups. One of them - GUI MALLON ENSEMBLE - recorded a live album live at the Montreux Jazz Festival,  an album with excellent reviews. (Live in Montreux, released in the US by Adventure Records.)

Back in Brazil since 2008, Gui Mallon has been awarded a number of prizes, among them the prestigious Prêmio Funarte Centenário de Luiz Gonzaga for his work
GONZAGUIANAS, which will be presented in Cambridge at the Michaelhouse on Sunday the 20th of October 2013, 18.00.
